"I was watching a movie one day with lots of Cajun music in it. I thought it was really good, and wondered if I could write somethng like that. I got the idea in my head of a Bayou fisherman being out in the Gulf fishing for several days and missing his sweetheart. The lyrics just flowed from that and Marco already had a melody line just waiting for lyrics; so between the two of us came 'My Sweet Cherie'. A VERY good Creole tune I think!" Ron Martin
lyrics
MY CHÉRIE
Marco Zanzi and Ron Martin
Well, I’ve been fishing now seems like months to me
It’s time to go ashore and squeeze my sweet chérie
She’s been waiting now for me to come back home
I won’t be a minute late ‘cause she’s there all alone
Well, she’s my baby yes I am her man
We’ve been together now but since I don’t know when
Can’t wait to Friday night to take her in my arms
And hold my chérie’s hands and dance till the morning light
We’ll dance the night away dance it all night long
Garçons please play for me an old fashioned Cajun song
That good ole Creole tune and a bottle of sweet wine
Will make my chérie dance until the morning light
That Filet Gumbo will lift your spirits high
Along with Beans and Rice Crab Cakes and Pecan Pie
And hold her in my arms until the sun is up
Well, it makes me feel so good that I’d never wanna stop
We’ll dance the night away dance it all night long
Garçons please play for me an old fashioned Cajun song
That good ole Creole tune and a bottle of sweet wine
Will make my chérie dance until the morning light
Instrumental
My chérie mon douce chérie you’re the only one for me
That Cajun feel will make you dance and set you free
That good ole Creole tune and a bottle of sweet wine
Will make my chérie dance until the morning light
Gone back to fishing now seems like months to me
I’ll dream to go ashore and squeeze my sweet chérie
She’s always waiting now for me to come back home
And I won’t be a minute late ‘cause she’s there all alone
