Back To The Country
05:03
|
|||
Going back to the country I need fresh water to cleanse my soul
Going back to the one I love I need her smile and embrace
Going back to the mountains I need wild spaces to free my mind
Going back to the Lord above I need Him to show me the way
I’m mindlessly floating while days are wearily moving
The forefathers pillars are ruins stacked in piles
The bridges have fallen the way’s rugged and uncertain
I’ve learned from life’s journey that I just need to go back again
Going back to the country I need fresh water to cleanse my soul
Going back to the one I love I need the smile on her face
Going back to the mountains I need wild spaces to free my mind
Going back to the Lord above I wish He'd show me the way
The stream of gold memories is running through my mind
The teaching of wise men and friends to bare my heart
The gift of the babies the warm smile on their faces
While reading them fables oh, I just need to go back again
Instrumental
The way now is clearer
The blessing of new brothers
The love of my dear one
Yet still I need to go back again
Going back to the country, the old tenets that warmed my soul
Going back to the one I love the light of her tender face
Going back to the mountains back to the rocks and crown of peaks
Going back to the Lord above I’m glad He shows me the way

The Dark Stranger
03:56
|
|||
The sky was dark when he was born the devil turned away
Carried a gun on each hip he came from White Oaks way
He robbed the coach that was Flagstaff bound burnt the old homestead
The air was full of smoke a bounty placed on his head
Robbed a bank in Clifton town he shot three deputies
Hid in the hills near Black Wolf away from his enemies
He never spoke and had eyes of steel the town’s folk felt the danger
Be afraid don’t feel the gaze of the man called the Dark Stranger
A dark wanted man feel the heat rise from the sand
A dark wanted man left San Pedro and the Red Jack gang
A dark wanted man ride the horse through the Badlands
He’s a gunman with no name a man called the Dark Stranger
Instrumental
A dark wanted man feel the heat rise from the sand
A dark wanted man left San Pedro and the Red Jack gang
A dark wanted man ride the horse through the Badlands
He’s a gunman with no name a man called the Dark Stranger
Sat in the saloon with his back to the door and Whisky in his hand
Outnumbered twenty to one by bounty hunter across the land
The crowd had gather to see the end high in the hanging tree
The sheriff gave the signal the town had been set free
The sky was dark when he was born the devil turned away
Carried a gun on each hip he came from White Oaks way
He never spoke and had eyes of steel the town’s folk felt the danger
Be afraid don’t feel the gaze of the man called the Dark Stranger

And Settlin' Down
03:28
|
|||
Here I am singin' my song to you now
I want you to listen
Yeah, yes I want you to listen
Makin' my time go by makin' you smile
I been thinkin' of you
Yeah, yes I been thinkin' of you
And settlin' down, oh
Back on the road again here I'm alone again
Hotel ain't home
No, no, no Hotel ain't home
Worn out the faces don't care what the pace is
I miss my woman
Yeah, yes I miss my woman
And settlin' down
But she's hummin' another sound
I hear the music in my ear
Instrumental
Here I am singin' my song to you now
I want you to listen
Yeah, yes I want you to listen
Makin' my time go by makin' you smile
I been thinkin' of you
Yeah, yes I been thinkin' of you
And settlin' down
But she's hummin' another sound
I hear the music in my ear

Little Star

Little star of the sky
Little star shining bright
Bringing me peace of mind
You’re one of a kind
Little star my lighthouse
When the dark comes around
Little star in your eyes
I watch God’s tender signs
Hush-a-bye baby
Sleep tight little dove
Rock-a-bye baby
In the cradle of love (2x)
Little star don’t you cry
Mom and dad’ll hold you tight
Little star's little smile
Hides the secrets of life
Little Star don’t grow up
I want to fill you with love
And when it turns to night
I’ll sing your lullaby
Hush-a-bye baby
Sleep tight little dove
Rock-a-bye baby
In the cradle of love (2x)

In My Own Small Way
02:55
|
|||
In my own small way you know I’ve tried
To keep you warm and happy to keep you satisfied
And I’d rather leave than make you cry
‘Cos in my own small way you know I’ve tried
We’ve had our share of troubled times
We’ve also had our good days and I guess the fate’s been kind
There were days when I was looking there were days when I was blind
But in my own small way well, I don’t mind
‘Cos in my own small way you know I’ve tried
To keep you warm and happy to keep you satisfied
And I’d rather leave than make you cry
‘Cos in my own small way you know I’ve tried
We’ve had our laughter and our tears
We’ve lived a thousand lifetimes or we shared a million years
Tho I might be on the road you know I’m always here
‘Cos in my own small way I hold you dear
In my own small way I’ve been tryin’ hard to say
I love you more than you could ever know
Now that it’s the end I’m tellin’ you my friend
The hardest thing I’ve ever had to do is go
Instrumental
In my own small way you know I’ve tried
To keep you warm and happy to keep you satisfied
And I’d rather leave than make you cry
‘Cos in my own small way you know I’ve tried
‘Cos in my own small way you know I’ve tried
In my own small way

The Road
03:47
|
|||
All the highway signs are gone now
It's just two lanes of blacktop ahead
I started out looking for something never knew what it was
I figured if I could just keep on movin'
I'd find it over the next hill
I thought that the end of the rainbow would be there still
Now the lights of the city behind me
It’s just me and the radio now
Darkness is fallin' the headlights are lightin' my way
And maybe I missed my turning
Maybe it's around the next bend
I know I gotta keep on movin' till I get to the end
Now this road seems to go on forever
But I gotta find out where it goes
I put so many miles behind me
Maybe I’m just headed back home
Instrumental
Now this road seems to go on forever
But I gotta find out where it goes
I put so many miles behind me
Maybe I’m just headed back home
Cantinas filled with women and song
I thought that they would never end
But the laughter gradually faded away on the wind
Did I leave something back there behind me?
Well, there’s nothing in the mirror to see
And telephone poles don’t offer much company
I know I gotta keep on movin’ till I hit the end
The road is gonna look much better around the next bend
I’ll find what I was lookin’ for when I get to the end
Well, I’m movin’, I gotta keep movin’, movin’ on
Movin’, I gotta keep movin’, movin’ on
Well, I’m movin’, movin’, movin’, movin’, movin’ on
Well, I’m movin’ on

Green is the colour of the West rolling hills
Laying so nicely toward the high peaks
White are the clouds in the blue sky so far
Red is the colour of a true aching heart
Mike worked on the land, oh handsome was he
Used to strum his old guitar and sang to be free
His home place was a village along the West Piedmont Route
He wore Cowboy shirts Stetson hats and leather boots
Mike was still looking for a nice girl to love
In this matter was fragile putting up a brave front
Every night he would pray to the Lord up above
“God help me to find my true pretty dove”
Green is the colour of the West rolling hills
Laying so nicely toward the high peaks
White are the clouds in the blue sky so far
Red is the colour of a true aching heart
Mary was tiny raven hair and green eyes
She was just a dream overflows your desires
When she said “Mike I love you” his heart became so light
Oh, the moon shone so bright with the stars on that night
It suddenly happened in a cold wintry night
He came home to find her with a fever so high
No doctors no prayers nor Mike’s desperate cry
Could change the cruel fate that left Mike crying “why”?
Green is the colour of the West rolling hills
Laying so nicely toward the high peaks
White are the clouds in the blue sky so far
Red is the colour of a true aching heart
Green is the colour of the West rolling hills
Laying so nicely toward the high peaks
White are the clouds in the blue sky so far
Red is the colour of a true aching heart

Colorado

Hey, Colorado
It was not so long ago
I left your mountains
To try life on the road
Now I'm finished with that race
It was much too fast a pace
And I think I know my place
Colorado I want to come home
I had a man there
But I left him far behind
I could have loved him
If I'd only had the time
Oh, but I stopped along my way
Just long enough to say
But I'd really like to stay
But my baby knows I have to go
I was too young
To know what I've done
I made my plans
But I was wrong yes, I was wrong
Hey, Colorado
Is it too late to change my mind
I've done some thinking
And I'm trying hard to find
The way to come back home
‘Cause I've been so very long alone
Won't you take care of your own
Colorado I think I'm coming home
I want to come home
Let me come home

How sad but true
Where does our actions lead to
Where can we find
A way to walk on
A way to carry on
How can we find
The Place where we belong to
Nothing seems to fit
The puzzle is too big
And the pieces too fragmented
Way too fragmented
All our lives we try so very hard
To do what we should do
But at times like these we know not when
We lose it all in a sense, in a sense, in a sense of despair
But all is not lost
For she's still there
Hoping to bring us back into
Her arms to hold on to
Her arms to hold on to
Instrumental
All our lives we try so very hard
To do what we should do
But at times like these we know not when
We lose it all in a sense, in a sense, in a sense of despair
But all is not lost
For she's still there
Hopefully bring us back into
Her arms to hold on to
Her arms to hold on to
Her arms to hold on to
Her arms to hold on to

Carolina Star
03:31
|
|||
Back in the hills those slow rolling hills
Where North Carolina comes close to the stars
There's living a lady she shining so high
They call her the Carolina star
She works at the factory from Monday through Friday
She's raising three daughters all alone
Their Daddy's away he's chasing a dream
They're waiting for the day that he comes home
Oh, Carolina
Even stars get lonesome now and then
Oh, Carolina
Don't you worry he'll be coming home again
He's singing his songs down in Nashville
He's working for his tips in a bar
He's broke and all alone but he ain't ready to come home
‘cause he wants to be a bluegrass pickin’ star
Oh, Carolina
Even stars get lonesome now and then
Oh, Carolina
Don't you worry he'll be coming home again
Instrumental
Sometimes she wakes up just to thinkin’ of him
She remembers him beside her in the night
While out across those hills that old moon is settled in
And those Carolina stars are shinin’ bright
Oh, Carolina
Even stars get lonesome now and then
Oh, Carolina
Don't you worry he'll be coming home again
Oh, Carolina
Even stars get lonesome now and then
Oh, Carolina
Don't you worry he'll be coming home again
Yes, he loves you and he's coming home again

Waiting On A Train
04:30
|
|||
Tears on my pillow another sleepless night for me
I've tried and tried to forget you but your face is all I see
Days and nights of drinking and wandering thru this town
Has all but broke me darling into a helpless pitiful clown
I spent a night in the County jail the sheriff was on my side
Said “Ron, why don't you leave this place? I’ll even help out with your ride”
Days and nights complaining while hanging around this town
But you ain’t never coming back to that you’re honour bound
Sun comes up but I don't care
The moon even shines at night
Jack and Jill are still around
But they don't treat me right
Instrumental
The sun comes up but I don't care
The moon even shines at night
Jack and Jill are still around
But they don't treat me right
But today my thinking's clearer my soul is taken in stride
Maybe I should go to town and look out for that ride
Sunday morning finds me here waiting in the rain
And Sunday morning finds me here waiting on a train
Yeah, Sunday morning finds me here waiting, waiting, waiting on a train

Little Annie

Once more I must leave you Little Annie
We must part at the end of the lane
For you promised me Little Annie
You'd be waiting when the Springtime comes again
When the Springtime comes o'er the mountain
And the wild flowers are scattered o'er the plain
I will watch for the leaves to return to the trees
And I'll be waitin' when the Springtime comes again
When the sun shines down on the mountain
And the wild sheep are wandering all alone
And the birds and the bees are a-singing
It makes me think that Springtime won't be long
When the Springtime comes o'er the mountain
And the wild flowers are scattered o'er the plain
I will watch for the leaves to return to the trees
And I'll be waitin' when the Springtime comes again
Instrumental
Now the Springtime is come to the mountain
And I'm on my way back to the lane
For you promised me Little Annie
You'd be waiting when the Springtime comes again
When the Springtime comes o'er the mountain
And the wild flowers are scattered o'er the plain
I will watch for the leaves to return to the trees
And I'll be waitin' when the Springtime comes again
I’ll watch for the leaves to return to the trees
And I'll be waitin' when the Springtime comes again
