"This is a song I co-wrote with my songwriting partner of nearly 40 years, John Marshall Carter. We both were thinking about past loves but neither one knew the other was writing about this. One day we were having a writing session and I showed him what I had (mostly the chorus) and he showed me what he had, (a verse) and we went from there to the final product. I'm very proud of this song. I think it is beautiful and unique ; especially with the wonderful chord progressions Marco wrote for the instrumental break." Ron Martin

HAUNTING FROM THE PAST
Ron Martin, John Marshall Carter & Marco Zanzi
Through the terrible wrath of winter
We walked through the fallen snow
And watched the similed projections
Of a winter's night aglow
And it was if she'd given me warning
How the winter months would fly
I do believe I heard her mind speak softly
“I'm leaving in July”
And oh, your first love
Seems better than your last
Oh, your first love
Comes haunting from the past
Spring burst forth upon us
Like a surprise attack at dawn
And, oh, too soon way too soon she had gone
She said it's been sweet
These trying years of yesterdays gone by
But all I could do, all I could was cry
Oh, your first love
Seems better than your last
Oh, your first love
Comes haunting from the past
Through the terrible wrath of winter
We walked through the fallen snow
And watched the similed projections
Of a winter's night aglow
She said it's been sweet
These trying years of yesterdays gone by
But all I could do, all I could was cry
